The ravishing queen strutted the ramp with grace at the national costume round, looking radiant, regal, and a royal visual representation of a woman. While the costume showcases the royal Indian Rani or Queen on the outside. Its elements are symbolic of the protective instinct of a woman. The key elements of the national costume are 'mirrors'.'The mirror work to blind the evil eye The outfit has detailed mirror work, a kind of embroidery that can be traced back to 13th century Persia, and made its way to India during the Mughal era. The use of mirrors and the craft of mirror work stem from traditional Islamic beliefs — the mirrors help to trap or blind the evil eye, reflecting bad luck and evil spirits away from the wearer. The religious beliefs trickled to Hinduism and Jainism, where shisha torans were hung on the front door to ward off evil spirits.
